Ear Keloid Excision is a surgical procedure to remove keloid scars that form on or around the ear, most commonly on the ear lobe following piercing, injury, or surgery. Keloids are raised, overgrown scar tissue that can be itchy, painful, and cosmetically distressing. Dr. Vishal Vikas Nair offers comprehensive keloid management combining surgical excision with adjuvant therapies to minimise recurrence.
A keloid is an abnormal overgrowth of scar tissue that extends beyond the boundaries of the original wound. On the ear, keloids most frequently develop after ear piercing, particularly on the ear lobe. They can range from small, firm nodules to large, disfiguring masses. Unlike hypertrophic scars, keloids do not regress on their own and often require active treatment.
The keloid is carefully excised under local anaesthesia. The wound is closed with meticulous technique to minimise tension and reduce recurrence risk.
Corticosteroid injections are administered post-operatively to suppress scar tissue regrowth and reduce recurrence rates significantly.
Pressure earrings or clips may be recommended post-excision to apply continuous pressure and prevent keloid reformation.
In selected cases, low-dose radiotherapy immediately after excision is used to further reduce recurrence in high-risk patients.
