Nasal bone fracture is one of the most common facial injuries, typically resulting from direct trauma to the nose. Fracture Nasal Bone Reduction is a surgical procedure to realign the broken nasal bones and restore the normal shape and function of the nose. Dr. Vishal Vikas Nair provides expert assessment and timely surgical correction to achieve the best functional and cosmetic outcomes.
Nasal bone reduction involves manually or surgically repositioning the fractured nasal bones back to their correct anatomical position. The procedure is ideally performed within 7–10 days of injury (before the bones set in a malunited position) or after 3–4 weeks if significant swelling is present. Delayed cases may require formal rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty.
Performed under general or local anaesthesia, the nasal bones are manually repositioned using specialised instruments (Walsham's and Asch's forceps) without any external incisions. A nasal splint is applied post-operatively to maintain the corrected position during healing.
For complex or severely displaced fractures, open reduction with internal fixation may be required to achieve stable anatomical alignment.
For delayed presentations or cases with significant septal deviation, a formal septorhinoplasty may be planned to address both functional and cosmetic concerns.
