Endoscopic Septoplasty

Endoscopic Septoplasty

Endoscopic Septoplasty is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum — the wall of cartilage and bone that divides the nasal cavity into two passages. A deviated septum can cause nasal obstruction, breathing difficulties, recurrent sinusitis, and sleep disturbances. Dr. Vishal Vikas Nair performs endoscopic septoplasty with superior precision and visualisation for optimal functional outcomes.

What is Endoscopic Septoplasty?

Unlike traditional septoplasty performed with a headlight, the endoscopic approach uses a high-definition endoscope to provide magnified, illuminated views of the entire nasal septum. This allows more accurate identification and correction of septal deviations, spurs, and deformities, particularly in the posterior and superior septum that are difficult to access conventionally.

Conditions Treated

  • Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS)
  • Nasal obstruction and breathing difficulty
  • Recurrent sinusitis due to septal deviation
  • Septal spurs causing nasal blockage or headache
  • Nasal septal perforation repair
  • Sleep-disordered breathing related to nasal obstruction

Procedure Overview

The procedure is performed under general or local anaesthesia. An endoscope is introduced through the nostril to visualise the septum. Incisions are made inside the nose (no external cuts), and the deviated cartilage and bone are carefully repositioned or removed. Nasal packing or splints may be placed temporarily to support healing. The procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes.

Benefits of Endoscopic Septoplasty

  • No external incisions or visible scarring
  • Superior visualisation of the entire septum
  • More precise correction of posterior deviations
  • Reduced blood loss and faster recovery
  • Can be combined with FESS or turbinate surgery
  • Significant improvement in nasal breathing

Symptoms Indicating Septoplasty

  • Persistent nasal blockage on one or both sides
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Snoring or sleep apnoea
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Nasal congestion not relieved by medications
  • Facial pain or headaches related to nasal obstruction
