Endoscopic Coblation Assisted Adenotonsillectomy is an advanced, minimally invasive technique for the removal of the tonsils and adenoids using Coblation (Controlled Ablation) technology. Coblation technology uses bipolar radiofrequency energy in a saline medium to create a plasma field that dissolves tissue at low temperatures (40–70°C), compared to conventional electrocautery which operates at 400°C. This results in minimal thermal damage to surrounding tissues, less post-operative pain, reduced risk of bleeding, and quicker return to normal diet and activities.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Using an endoscope for enhanced visualisation, the Coblation wand is used to precisely remove the tonsils and/or adenoids with minimal bleeding. The entire procedure typically takes 30–45 minutes. Patients are usually discharged the same day or the following morning.
